Raptor - System Maintenance

AFRL DSRC Cray XE6 RAPTOR - Dates Modified - Extended Maintenance - now beginning 11 June 2012

As part of the TI-11/12 acquisition, RAPTOR will undergo a major operating system, processor and associated memory upgrade starting 0700 EDT on 11 June 2012. RAPTOR's expected return to service will be 28 June 2012. Please plan your job and reservation resource requirements with this information in mind.

WORKSPACE:

The AFRL DSRC strongly suggests users move data from workspace to the Center-Wide File System (CWFS) prior to this upgrade. Data on workspace is volatile and is not automatically backed up.

TI-11/12 Upgrade Details:

This maintenance includes upgrading the existing 8-core 2.4 GHz AMD Magny Cours processors to 16-core 2.5 GHz AMD Interlagos processors with 2 GB memory per core. The number of nodes will remain at 2,732, but each node will consist of 32 cores versus the current 16. This will take RAPTOR from 43,712 cores and 87 TB of memory to 87,424 cores and 174 TB of memory.

Future RAPTOR Plans:

RAPTOR will operate, at the AFRL DSRC, in this upgraded mode until 1 October 2012, pending its move to ERDC. As part of TI 11/12, RAPTOR will be integrated with the upgraded Garnet and Chugach systems. Storage for the integrated system will then be upgraded to about twice the existing capacity.
