HPC Resource Centers

The mission of the High Performance Computing and Modernization Program (HPCMP) is to deliver world-class commercial, high-end, high performance computational capabilities to the DoD's science and technology and test and evaluation communities. To accomplish this mission, the Program supports five DoD Supercomputing Resource Centers and three Affiliated Resource Centers (ARCs). These Centers provide DoD's scientists and engineers with the resources necessary to solve the most demanding computational problems. Each Center is a robust complement of HPC capabilities that include large-scale HPC systems, high-speed networking, multi-PB archival mass storage systems, and customer support services. Program Services and Resources

In addition to the HPC Resource Centers, the HPCMP sponsors the following services and resources to support our user community:

Baseline Configuration

This ongoing program-wide effort works to address the needs of the growing community of DoD HPCMP users who need to work on data- and computation-intensive problems spread across multiple computing centers and services. Most recent surveys show that over one-half of the DoD HPCMP users have accounts at more than one center. The main goal of the Baseline Configuration project is to define and establish a common set of capabilities and functions so that users can compute productively and collaboratively when using the HPC resources at multiple computing centers. HPC Help Desk

The HPC Help Desk provides a single point of contact for inquiries and technical assistance for customers of select shared resource centers within the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). As the first point of contact for HPC users that need customer service, the HPC Help Desk is accessible via telephone, the Web, and e-mail. Learn more...

Data Analysis and Assessment Center (DAAC)

The DAAC exists to provide and promote the use of advanced tools for analyzing an ever-increasing volume and complexity of data. With a goal of putting visualization and analysis tools and services into the hands of every user, the DAAC provides community resources such as the secure remote desktop (SRD) and HPC Job Launching scripts in ParaView, EnSight, and Visit, educates users in the use of visualization tools, and facilitates the production of high-quality data-based presentations designed to effectively communicate the research results to others. HPC Portal

The HPCMP's new web-based portal helps users more easily access and use Program resources. Developed at the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), the HPC Portal provides user-friendly access to computational and storage resources and establishes new ways for users to improve project efficiency using HPC. From within the Portal, users can run hosted applications on dedicated HPC resources across the program without having to install or maintain software.

The HPC Portal is available at https://centers.hpc.mil/portal/
Additional documentation is available at https://www.mhpcc.hpc.mil/portal/Overview.html

Productivity Enhancement and Training (PET)

The PET initiative helps our scientists and engineers take full advantage of DoD HPC resources through training, collaboration, tool development, and support for software development, technology tracking, technology transfer, and outreach to users. Through our relationships with universities and industry, we are able to bring the Nation's best minds and solutions together to help speed work and reduce overall costs of technological development and application. Portal to the Information Environment (pIE)

The HPCMP has implemented a secure, web-based system for managing its computing resources: the Portal to the Information Environment (pIE). The system provides the HPCMP community with an application process that eases the burden for program participants in completing account documentation and provides convenient access to system-wide information.

Secure Remote Desktop (SRD)

The Secure Remote Desktop (SRD) provides HPCMP researchers the ability to securely schedule jobs on many DSRC systems, query the status of those jobs, and obtain a fully functional remote desktop on the node your job is running on. The SRD software suite is highly optimized for graphics processing, remotely rendering on high performance graphics hardware, and streaming those results back to your Windows, Linux, or Mac desktop. SRD sessions have access to the full suite of tools residing on the remote host, including pre- and post-processing packages such as Matlab, TecPlot, VisIt, and EnSight. Local high-speed access to the remote file space is also available, often removing the need for data migration. Supporting 3-D hardware acceleration, large memory, and multiple cores, the system was specifically designed for interactive use of resource-intensive applications. Learn More...

User Advocacy Group (UAG)

The mission of the UAG is to provide a forum for HPCMP users to influence policies and practices of the Program; to facilitate the exchange of information between the user community and the HPCMP; to serve as an advocacy group for all HPCMP users; and to advise program leadership on policy and operational matters related to the HPCMP. Visual Queue (VQ)

Visual Queue is a web application that lets you "see" the activity of batch jobs, queues, and HPC machines in our center. It consists of a Java applet that runs on your computer to handle all the drawing and animation as well as a server (on our end) that supplies your applet with all the information it needs about jobs, queues, mach ines, and events to make the visualization possible.
